This is a portion of an art piece I’m working on.
I would play around with the filters and photo editing controls to get an image you are pleased with. Try adjusting the exposure or highlights. Play around with it and see what you come up with.
Gloss is a type of medium that can be mixed with different acrylic paint colors to give your matte paint a glossy-er look. Or you can add just a bit of color to the gloss for a varnish. Not all glosses are built for oils or acrylics so read the labels to make sure you get the right kind of gloss for your project.

I fixed the image into a frame at my mother’s home. Cropped. Slightly elongated. I wanted to see how the colors would compliment her interior space. Not sure yet if this work is meant for her space. She loves it, so that’s a good start.
Two important things I learned from this project, which will be repeated again later. #1 Paint down, gravity is your friend with paint pens. #2 Don’t forget to wait until the paint dries.
A family member reached out to me asking if my art was for purchase and how they could purchase an original art work. I answer her questions here.

Drawing digitally is great to pass time or just quickly get an idea out there.
I received a request for a Sadio Mane painting. Just in time for the Liverpool win. To have completed a project that took me into an unexplored painting theme was really exciting. I love it! Ali is next y’all!
Often times I paint over some of my used canvases because the art was initially created as a quick sketch or teaching exercise. Yet every so often one gets in with the family.

Carrie in the Salon photo by Deborah Willis. The experience of black hair salons and what this scared space actually means. Understood as a non-negotiable experience used to uplift and protect our crowns. This is my take on the art work.
The story for this piece includes Ancient Egyptian Religion and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
What’s the point of writing another blog post when you just don’t feel like it? You’ve been at it for years (or months), what’s the point?
This is a depiction of an Oshun, an African deity. The goddess of love, prosperity, order and fertility.
As more and more time passed my thoughts about this painting changed again. When I felt like the victim in a relationship, the woman depicted in the painting became a pawn. When I felt powerful she became a queen. Over time my understanding of what I painted deepened from what it initially was (at the age of 15 years old).

Doodling flowers has always been a form of escapism for me. If I was in class or waiting for an airplane, I’d doodle flowers to pass the time. I’ve often wondered why my style hasn’t changed that much since high school. All the different drawing techniques I’ve learned since then and my mind continues to…
The summer I imagined myself as a musician I created this avatar. I was young and trying out every thing I could from singing to dancing to writing lyrics. Hahaha It’s funny because this was the same summer that I realized how much music influenced my visual art. Just a couple of years after this…
Most of the people on the beach wasn’t bothered by those gray clouds. With everything that has happened in the year 2020, I felt appreciative of the moment of right now. I focused my attention to the shoreline and how the sunlight reflected off of the water.
Thankful for clean fresh air

Throughout the craziness I’ve managed to load new artworks into my shop. Thank God!
