Often times I paint over some of my used canvases because the art was initially created as a quick sketch or teaching exercise. Yet every so often one gets in with the family.

What’s the point of writing another blog post when you just don’t feel like it? You’ve been at it for years (or months), what’s the point?
This is a depiction of an Oshun, an African deity. The goddess of love, prosperity, order and fertility.
As more and more time passed my thoughts about this painting changed again. When I felt like the victim in a relationship, the woman depicted in the painting became a pawn. When I felt powerful she became a queen. Over time my understanding of what I painted deepened from what it initially was (at the age of 15 years old).

Most of the people on the beach wasn’t bothered by those gray clouds. With everything that has happened in the year 2020, I felt appreciative of the moment of right now. I focused my attention to the shoreline and how the sunlight reflected off of the water.

Side notes: Creating the art classes gave me purpose during this time. I channeled the creativity into all areas of my life by learning to sew (again) to make face masks, baking, dancing and singing. This experience of teaching online has been wonderful and I appreciate every moment. And I do plan to explore it further.
Cactus Painting: Time to Repaint
