Lois Mailou Jones
Lois Mailou Jones stared her professional career designing floral textile designs inspired by her visits to Martha’s Vineyard as a child. Many of these designs were added to home fabrics and sold in department stores across the country. Her designs were very successful but many people did not know she created these designs.

In order to gain recognition for her works Jones decided to pursue art. Some of her most famous artworks are of African masks. Later she incorporated textile-like designs and portraits of people she met during her travels as a U.S. Cultural Ambassador to Africa.
